St Michael's Church Of England Primary School

Welcome to St Michael's Mathematics Homepage!

At St Michael's we aim to create confident mathematicians by equipping them with the skills needed for later life. We follow the White Rose curriculum across all year groups.

We have a focus on teaching for mastery, which focuses on developing children's mathematical fluency and understanding. It ensures that key concepts are fully grasped before moving on to new learning. Mastery teaching is based on 5 key concepts: coherence, representation & structure, mathematical thinking, variation and fluency.

Children are assessed regularly to ensure that they are challenged and supported appropriately. This is a mixture of assessment in the classroom (assessment for learning), end of black assessments when they have completed a topic, and end of term assessments in Autumn, Spring and Summer.

We set weekly homework to help embed the teaching objectives covered that week.

We use Times Tables Rock Stars to develop our children's fluency of their times tables. We strongly encourage children from Year 2 upwards to access it at home regularly. Below are some useful links to help support children with their learning at home.
